  1. Park your car in front of the different vehicle, engage the parking brakes on both vehicles, and turn both vehicles off.
  2. Open both car hoods and locate the batteries. You may need to remove the protective hood to expose the terminals.
  3. Identify the negative and positive terminals of the battery, and wipe off any corrosion with a stiff brush.
  4. Connect one of the red clamps to the positive post on the dead battery.
  5. Connect the jumper cable’s other red clamp to the positive terminal of the fully charged battery.
  6. On the good battery, connect the black clamp to the negative post.
  7. Finally, connect the second black to an unpainted metal surface connected to the frame of your vehicle.
  8. Start the engine of the vehicle with a good battery, then start the car with the bad battery.
  9. Once the dead vehicle is running, carefully remove the jumper cables in the reverse order they were placed on. Make sure the clamps do not touch each other or any other surface on the vehicle. Then turn off the car that was used to help jump-start your dead car battery.
  10. To allow the recharged battery to strengthen its charge, keep your car running for at least 10 minutes to solidify the charge.
